Sustainability and productivity can only “come together when you embrace technology” and understand how modern American agricultural innovation has brought advances for the world.
That’s according to Jon Entine, founder and executive director of the Genetic Literacy Project, a recent guest on U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue’s podcast series, The Sonnyside of the Farm.
On this episode they discuss technological innovation in agriculture and how Europe’s ‘precautionary principle’ is causing consumers to wrongly fear technology and increase their fear of food. The reality is that, thanks to science and innovation, our food has never been safer nor more nutritious, Entine says. Sustainability has also improved (American farmers’ use of insecticide has decreased by 95%).
