In a ranking of the environmental performance of Swiss food retail supermarket chains, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) held up Coop and Migros as “pioneers” for tackling sustainability and greenhouse gas emissions, but complained that no retailer was yet sufficiently good to be rated as a “dynamic leader”.

WWF looked at all the chains’ corporate policies, management systems, investments, inputs, and products. It judged Aldi Suisse, Denner, Lidl Suisse, Manor, Pistor, Saviva, and Transgourmet Suisse to be slightly better than Globus and Spar but classed Volg and Pamwere as “opaque,” apparently because they failed to answer WWF’s questionnaire.
