DESCRIPTION: As the U.S. dairy industry targets greenhouse gas neutrality by 2050, a new life cycle assessment (LCA) provides the clearest picture yet of its emissions, from cradle to farm gate. Unlike previous studies that relied on more general models and data, the new LCA draws on the latest climate science, updated industry data and predictive models to provide a regional breakdown of emissions and emissions intensity across all U.S. dairy-producing counties, offering unprecedented accuracy. The result is a new 2020 baseline for net neutrality targets, along with insights into trends and improvements in emission intensity and production practices since 2007.
