As the summer growing season comes to a close and harvest season nears, farmers across the country begin gathering their crops to sort, package and sell, and preparing their fields for colder months to come. Farming is a difficult profession, but an immensely important one. That’s why, particularly at this time of year, we thank our dedicated farmers, not only for their incredibly hard work, but also for the crucial service they provide—feeding our country and the world.

This harvest season, USDA stands with America’s Harvest Heroes as they secure the bounty of healthy food American agriculture is renowned for. From laying the foundation for the next generation of farmers putting down roots in rural America, to supporting the fruit and vegetable growers who are helping to grow healthier communities, to bolstering new markets for the products of agricultural innovation, USDA support is yielding strong results for every American. For these reasons and more, America’s Harvest Heroes deserve our thanks.

Just last week, we announced $35 million in funds for local and regional producers, continuing to expand new marketing opportunities for farmers and ranchers and increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables for Americans coast to coast.

We also launched 50 state-by-state factsheets detailing the impact women have on agriculture in each state and across the country. In addition, we featured five inspiring #womeninag on the USDA Blog, all of whom are breaking down barriers and doing their part to make sure that we have a new generation of farmers who is up to the task of feeding a growing population around the globe.

Stay tuned this month as we highlight some of our nation’s #HarvestHeroes and celebrate the promise of rural America, and the #RuralMade economy.
