SUMMARY: An environmental evaluation of eleven food waste management methods
DESCRIPTION: Over one-third of the food produced in the United States is never eaten. Much of it ends up in landfill, which wastes the resources used to make it and negatively impacts the environment. In this new report, the EPA investigates eleven common solutions to reducing food waste, ranging from source reduction and upcycling to anaerobic digestion and land application. It analyzes the environmental impacts of each approach and its contribution to a circular economy, presenting the results in a ranking from most to least environmentally preferable.
