DESCRIPTION: The benefits of soil health practices for the land and the environment are well-reported, but their impact on the bottom line is less understood. To help farmers evaluate the economic aspect, the Soil Health Institute and the National Association of Conservation Districts, with support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA NRCS), conducted a study based on farmers’ on-the-ground experiences. They interviewed 30 farmers across the United States who have adopted soil health management systems from cover crops to no-till cultivation and evaluated their returns using partial budget analysis.
