DESCRIPTION: This annual publication provides the latest statistics on the farming sector in the 48 contiguous U.S. states, highlighting that in 2023, family farms continued to dominate, accounting for 96% of operations and 83% of production. In addition to data on farm characteristics, financial performance, farm household income and use of government assistance, this year’s edition introduces two new sections. One focuses on farmers’ unpriced inventory of stored commodities, specifically corn, soybeans, and wheat; the other examines the adoption rates of precision agriculture technologies and farmers’ motivations for using them.
