When Cedric Porter, a journalist from the UK, visited Nebraska, he found a state committed to sustainable agriculture where standards far exceed those required by law. Most grain farmers have implemented minimum and no-till practices to prevent soil erosion due to strong memories of the Dust Bowl storms of the past. According to Steve Wellman, a farmer and former director of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, this has resulted in a 50% reduction in fuel use and improved soil fertility.
