DESCRIPTION: The National Strategy for Reducing Food Loss and Waste and Recycling Organics is the first interagency strategy to lay out a plan for the United States to meet its national goal of halving food loss and waste and achieving a 50% recycling rate by 2030. The strategy outlines a comprehensive set of actions that USDA, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration can take to reduce waste and protect the environment while improving food security and saving money for families and businesses. These actions include optimizing the harvest and collection of raw commodities, reducing food loss in manufacturing and processing through upcycling, and funding research into new food loss and waste innovations.
