The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) has become the 26th member of the U.S. Sustainability Alliance (USSA). The world’s largest organization devoted to representing the business, legislative, and regulatory interests of the animal food industry and its suppliers, AFIA plays a vital role in supporting sustainable animal agriculture. AFIA’s membership expands USSA’s reach into the animal food industry, which exported close to $900 million in animal and pet food products to the UK and EU in 2023.
Mallory Gaines, AFIA’s director of market access & multilateral affairs, said the AFIA is committed to providing sustainable animal feed solutions to its livestock, poultry, and aquaculture partners and is excited to join a larger group promoting U.S. sustainable agricultural practices in the United Kingdom and Europe.
“We want to be part of a collective effort that champions the sustainability and productivity of U.S. agriculture and works together to change negative perceptions,” she adds.
Abby Rinne, sustainability director at the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) and a member of the USSA Management Council says, “AFIA is a welcome and significant addition to the USSA. It takes us into a new sector that offers tremendous potential to improve farm sustainability by ensuring that the animals that meet the world’s nutrition needs are raised and fed responsibly and efficiently. We look forward to working together to share this message in Europe.”
About The U.S. Sustainability Alliance (USSA)
The USSA was founded in 2013 and serves as the voice of sustainable food and agricultural production in the United States.
Its membership comprises 26 farming, fishery, and forestry associations and related production and processing sectors that are collectively responsible for approximately $8 billion in annual U.S. food and agricultural exports to the U.K. and European Union (2022).
USSA’s mission is to share insights into U.S. production methods with counterparts in Europe and beyond, provide clear data on its members’ sustainability progress, support their commercial interests, and develop export opportunities.
