SUMMARY: How rising temperatures and shifting rainfall patterns could affect rainfed croplands in the United States
DESCRIPTION: In this report, American Farmland Trust projects how a changing climate will affect rainfed croplands in the United States where corn, winter wheat, and apples are grown. Using modeling, it considers two potential 2040 scenarios – one where we continue to release high amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and another where we act immediately to reduce emissions significantly. The latter, it concludes, is necessary if current crop varieties and production practices are to remain viable in the future.
